This research study is evaluating the safety and effectiveness of an investigational medication (not approved for clinical use) for people with CKD and obesity. You may be able to participate in the TREASURE-CKD Study if you:

  • Are at least 18 years old
  • Have been diagnosed with CKD
  • Are classified as overweight or obese according to the Body Mass Index

The study is open to people with and without type 2 diabetes. If you are interested in participating, the study doctor or staff will share additional study criteria with you.

The study will involve 12 visits to a nearby study center over the course of approximately 62 weeks. Certain procedures, such as MRI, may be performed on a different day than a scheduled visit. In addition to receiving study treatment, those accepted into the study will consult with experienced diet and exercise counselors who will set calorie and activity goals. Participants may be compensated for travel, expenses, and some study-related activities.

If eligible, participation will last about 62 weeks.

The study is evaluating an investigational medication delivered subcutaneously, or under the skin. Participants will give themselves a shot under the skin once every week using a disposable, prefilled, single-dose pen provided by the study doctor or staff.

Certain other medications will be allowed during the study including common medications for hypertension and/or diabetes. The study center staff can review the medications you are taking and tell you if they are allowed.

There is no cost to you for participating in the study. In addition, participants may be compensated for travel, expenses, and some study-related activities.

Clinical research studies are designed in specific ways, and one or more of the answers that you provided were outside of the guidelines for this study. This does not mean you will not qualify for different research studies.
