AboutChronic Kidney Disease (CKD)
When your kidneys are functioning properly, they act as a filter, removing waste and extra fluid from your blood to make urine.
- CKD is a condition in which you lose kidney function gradually over time.
- If CKD worsens, waste can build up in your blood and make you sick.
- Complications of CKD can be serious and may include:1
- Heart disease
- Bone fractures
- Damage to the central nervous system
- A compromised immune system
- End-stage kidney disease
- Excess weight, as well as diabetes and high blood pressure, are key risk factors for developing CKD.
Currently, there are only a limited number of ways to treat CKD. That’s where the TREASURE-CKD Study comes in.
